Peneleh Bridge is the oldest bridge in Surabaya located in the city center, connecting Jl Gemblongan and Jl Peneleh. Peneleh Bridge is located above the Kalimas River which used to be a trade route with many boats passing through the Kalimas River.
Built in 1900, this bridge is a witness to the development of the city of Surabaya since the old city in the Jembatan Merah area. In the early 1900s, Surabaya's trade was centered in the northern Surabaya area. Peneleh Bridge became the opening road for access from the Peneleh and Plampitan areas to the Alun-alun Contong area which leads to Jl Tunjungan.
During the war of independence, Peneleh Bridge has a historical record, namely in 1945, this Peneleh Bridge became a battlefield. The November 10 Battle involving arek-arek Suroboyo also took place here.
